Important book from MHS' researchers
Recently, the book Culture, Religion, and the Reintegration of Female Child Soldiers in Northern Uganda, ed. Bård Mæland (New York: Peter Lang) was published as part of a NUFU-supported research project that has taken place at MHS -School of Mission and Theology, in cooperation with Makerere University.
The reintegration of thousands of formerly abducted children from the Lord's Resistance Army back to their families and communities in northern Uganda represents tremendous challenges. This book examines cultural and religious complexities that surround young females who are now returning to the society of northern Uganda, often accompanied with their own children. Religiously and ritually rich, understanding the Acholi and North Ugandan context and culture is important for the success of the ongoing reintegration. The book consists of ocontributions from as diverse fields as anthroplogy, psychology, moral philosophy, religious studies and theology.
From MHS School of Mission and Theology, the following researchers have participated: Helen Nkabala Nambalirwa (and Makerere University); Christine Mbabzi Mpyangu (and Makerere University), Emeline Ndossi (and Makumira University College); Tor Arne Berntsen; Marta Høyland Lavik; Knut Holter; Magnar Kartveit; Thor Strandenæs; Gerd Marie Ådna; and Bård Mæland.
MGS gave me new and more perspectives on what I have expirienced and learnt in my job. After several years of jobs with child welfare, asylum seekers and prevention of prostitution and human trafficking, it was like an oasis to come to MHS and study.
