International conference on the missionary speeches in the Acts of the Apostles
On Wednesday and Thursday, 19 - 20 May, an international conference on the missionary speeches in the Acts of the Apostles took place at the School of Mission and Theology in Stavanger, Norway. Scholars from India, Egypt, Romania, Germany and Norway took part at the conference.
Jostein Ådna, Professor of New Testament at the School of Mission and Theology, has since 2007 coordinated an international research seminar on mission in the New Testament together with two international colleagues. This seminar convenes annually during the general meetings of the Society of New Testament Scholars (SNTS). The conference last week in Stavanger on the missionary speeches in Acts was initiated as an additional event to these annual seminar sessions. The two colleagues with whom together Prof. Ådna coordinates the SNTS seminar on mission in the New Testament, Prof. Joseph J. Kanagaraj (India) and Prof. Stelian Tofana (Romania), presented papers on Paul's speeches in Acts 17:22-34 and 20:17-38. From abroad also Dr. Atef M. Gendy, President of the Evangelical Theological Seminary in Cairo, Egypt, and Dr. Christoph Stenschke, Professor at the Biblical-theological Academy of Forum Wiedenest, joined the conference and presented papers on certain aspects of the missionary speeches in Acts. Altogether there were 23 participants, of whom nine were African and Latin-American master and PhD students at the School of Mission and Theology.
For more information about the international research seminar about mission in the New Testament and about the detailed programme of the conference on the missionary speeches in Acts, 19 - 20 May, 2010, see the entry "Mission in the New Testament" in the rubric on Research.
The studies at MHS have been very useful. In my present job at the Police office in Stavanger I daily meet people from different parts of the world. I took both a bachelor and a master degree at MHS. I feel that my background has helped me a lot in my job in the Police.
