Karl Ludvig Reichelt Memorial Lecture 2009

Karl Ludvig Reichelt Memorial Lecture 2009 was held in the MHS aula on Tuesday, December 8th. The lecture was given by Associate Professor Ole Bjørn Rongen and the topic was "In the Beginning was TAO. Interpreting and communicating Confucius and Laozi - the two great Wise Men of China". Ole Bjørn Rongen is a sinologist and journalist. He is Associate Professor of journalism at the Institute of Media, Culture and Social Science at the University of Stavanger.

Dr. Rongen was formerly a journalist in the County of Rogaland radio and television stations, serving as program secretary. There he worked both as radio and TV reporter, as program secretary and program leader.

In addition to four other translations Rongen has translated two of the most important classical texts of Confucianism and Taoism from Chinese to Norwegian. These are The Analects by Confucius and The Daodejing by Laozi.

MGS gave me new and more perspectives on what I have expirienced and learnt in my job. After several years of jobs with child welfare, asylum seekers and prevention of prostitution and human trafficking, it was like an oasis to come to MHS and study.
