Professor John Barton visits MHS

The Revd Professor John Barton, MA, DPhil, DLitt (Hon DrTheol Bonn). Oriel and Laing Professor of the interpretation of Holy Scripturen, Oxford University, visits MHS 17.-18. September 2008.

Thursday 18. September, 12.15-14.00, Professor Barton will give a public lecture:

“God and the 'new atheism'”

Based on the new atheism debate (cf. Richard Dawkins, The God Delusion, 2007) Professor Barton has been asked to comment on the question about God from an Old Testament perspective.

Professor John Barton has published a number of books, including well known textbooks on methodology, cf. Reading the Old Testament: Method in Biblical Study (1996) and The Nature of Biblical Criticism (2007). Other books include The biblical world (2002), Understanding Old Testament Ethics : Approaches and Explorations (2003), The Old Testament : Canon, Literature and Theology : Collected Essays (2007).

The studies at MHS have been very useful. In my present job at the Police office in Stavanger I daily meet people from different parts of the world. I took both a bachelor and a master degree at MHS. I feel that my background has helped me a lot in my job in the Police.
