MHS accredited as a specialized university
The Government of Norway has today accredited the MHS School of Mission and Theology as a specialized university for theological, religious and cultural studies.
The decision to accredit the MHS School of Mission and Theology as a specialized university concludes a long process. It was the new Norwegian university act of 2005 that made it possible for non-state academic institutions to get institutional accreditation at a top level. In December 2006 the MHS School of Mission and Theology applied for accreditation as a specialized university, and NOKUT - the Norwegian state accrediting agency - appointed an international committee to evaluate the institution. In January 2008 the committee concluded positively, and after a board decision in NOKUT in April, the Government could today - May 23, 2008 - accredit the MHS.
According to Rector Knut Holter, the accreditation will mean a lot for the further development of the MHS. We now have the same institutional freedom as other universities, he says, as he points out that the MHS is now free to profile its study programmes.
MGS gave me new and more perspectives on what I have expirienced and learnt in my job. After several years of jobs with child welfare, asylum seekers and prevention of prostitution and human trafficking, it was like an oasis to come to MHS and study.
