Dr Kjell Nordstokke appointed Adjunct Professor

Dr Kjell Nordstokke - presently serving as Director, Department for Mission and Development, Lutheran World Federation, Geneva - has been appointed Adjunct Professor of Mission and Diaconia Studies, MHS School of Mission and Theology.

Dr Nordstokke, a graduate of the MHS School of Mission and Theology, served in Brazil as a missionary of the Norwegian Missionary Society for ten years in the 1970s and 80s. He has published several articles in the area of missiology, working with issues like contextualization, third world theology, theology of liberation, transformation, mission and diakonia, and has taught these subjects at academic level both in Norway and abroad. His 1991 doctoral dissertation at Oslo University was on the subject, “Council and Context in Leonardo Boff’s Ecclesiology: The Rebirth of the Church among the Poor.” Before joining the LWF staff in Geneva, Dr Nordstokke worked as Professor of Diaconia Studies at Diakonhjemmet Høgskole in Oslo, Norway.

The appointment of Nordstokke as Adjunct Professor at MHS School of Mission and Theology, is part of a strengthening of Diaconia Studies in the institution. Dr Nordstokke will do some teaching, and he will also supervise Master's and Ph.D. students.

MGS gave me new and more perspectives on what I have expirienced and learnt in my job. After several years of jobs with child welfare, asylum seekers and prevention of prostitution and human trafficking, it was like an oasis to come to MHS and study.
