22-26 June 2009: Joint Conference, Stellenbosch

The 150th anniversary of the Faculty of Theology, University of Stellenbosch, South Africa, is celebrated with a joint conference of a number of academic societies in the field of religion and theology, 22-26 June 2009.

 

The Old Testament Society of South Africa is part of the conference, and it invites to its annual meeting under the overall theme:

 

150 Years Old Testament Studies in South Africa:

History, Trajectories and Change

 

Proposals for papers exploring the following aspects of the overall theme are welcome:

  • Mapping the way we have come: traditions, challenges, problems, approaches of the past 150 years, continuities, discontinuities
  • taking stock of the present: trends, approaches, challenges, opportunities of our own day; how do our areas of research fit into the South African scholarly landscape?
  • Envisioning the road ahead: the role of OT studies, OT studies as science, contribution of OT studies in debate on science and religion, OT in religious studies curricula, the contribution of OT studies to nation building, service delivery, resisting gender violence, making a difference with HIV/AIDS, etc.
