Network of Theology and religious Studies was established in 2000 by MHS – School of Mission and Theology together with six universities and university colleges in Africa. The participating institutions are:
- Cameroon: Institut Luthérien de Théologie, Meiganga
- Ethiopia: Mekane Yesus Theological Seminary, Addis Ababa
- Madagascar: Lutheran Graduate School of Theology, Fianarantsoa
- Norway: MHS – School of Mission and Theology, Stavanger
- South Africa: Lutheran Theological Institute / University of KwaZulu-Natal, Pietermaritzburg
- Tanzania: Makumira University College of Tumaini University, Usa River
- Uganda: Department of Religious Studies, Makerere University, Kampala
Three key areas of collaboration are identified as crucial:
- exchange of students and academic staff
- research collaboration
- collaboration of institutional development
