Barna på misjonsmarka: hvem var de?

I anledning av at Studentsamskipnaden i Stavanger har tatt i bruk sitt nye bygg med studenthybler (SIS-bolig) her på Misjonsmarka, har Det Norske Misjonsselskap og Misjonshøgskolen gått sammen om å gi et bilde i gave. En stor forstørrelse preget på plexiglass er gjort i stand, og det vil snart bli montert i byggets inngangsparti. Bildet er tatt i første del av 1950-tallet, og midt på bildet er også noen barn å se. Nå undres vi på hvem disse barna er.

Carte-de-visite style portraits

MHS Mission Archives has quite a few of the so-called carte-de-visite style portrait photos (the format is sometimes abbreviated "CdV"), attached to hard paper cards with the imprint and logos of the photographer.

A color slide from Cameroon

The image on the banner is a manipulation of two independent photos: a scanned color slide from the Olaf A. Ellingsen Cameroon collection, and a digital photo of a sample paper frame.

Slides constitute a considerable amount of of the photo collection at the Mission Archives.

Motivet på banneret er en manipulasjon av to uavhengige fotografier: et skannet fargelysbilde fra Olaf A. Ellingsens billedserie fra Kamerun og et digitalt bilde av en tilfeldig valgt lysbilderamme av papp.

Lysbilder (dias) utgjør en betydelig del av fotosamlingen i Misjonsarkivet.

"Strandleiren, Sola" - a NMS camp site near Stavanger airport

"Strandleiren" was established as a Christian camp site for young peolpe in the late 1940s by Racin Kolnes (NMS missionary in China 1925-1947). In 1959 the property was transferred to NMS ownership.
"Strandleiren" ble etablert av Racin Kolnes (NMS misjonær i Kina 1925-1947) på slutten av 1940-tallet som et kristent leirsted for ungdom. I 1959 overtok NMS eiendommen.

The grave of Bernt Lie in Madagascar

Bernt Lie (1846-1894), a dentist, served in Madagascar. Even though he was not sent by the Norwegian Missionary Society, the Malagasy regarded him as a missionary. His grave is in Antananarivo, Madagascar.

Jørgen Edvin Nilssen (1871-1922)

This photo is a sample from the collection of "Det Norske Misjonsselskaps lysbilde- og filmsentral", a former branch of the NMS ministry in Norway. This branch provided photos, slides and 16 mm films for the presentation of the world-wide missionary work to the NMS community, congregations in the Church of Norway, mass media and the general public.
