ProjectsExpansion of our IMPA collectionSupported by a generous grant of USD 45.471,00 from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation we can now implement a plan to add about 5300 photos to the International Mission Photography Archive (IMPA) collection. We are especially grateful to Jon Miller, Director of Research, Center for Religion and Civic Culture, University of Southern California (the host of the IMPA database), for his efforts towards obtaining the grant. Tjelle is presently working on a Ph.D.-thesis about Norwegian male
missionaries who lived and worked among the Zulu ethnic group in South
Africa in the period 1870-1940. The ideology and praxis of the
missionaris are studied from a gender oriented perspective. Additional
details about her project is available in Norwegian. Kristin Fjelde Tjelle arbeider for
tiden på en Ph.D.-avhandling om norske, mannlige misjonærer som bodde og
arbeidet blant den etniske gruppen Zulu i Sør Afrika i perioden 1870-1940.
Misjonærenes ideologi og praksis studeres ut fra et kjønnsperspektiv.( April 01, 2008 ) Norwegian Missionaries : Practice and representation in the formation of ‘self’ and ‘other’, 1870-2005This is a research and exhibition project based at the University of Bergen, scheduled for the years 2006-2008. Material from NMS Archives will be important in the implementation of the project. See presentation (in Norwegian) in "På høyden", the internet newsletter of the University of Bergen. Norwegian mission and cultural interactions in South Africa and Madagascar, 1880-1960This is a project in cooperation between the University of Stavanger and the School of Mission and Theology. Documents in NMS Archives represent key source material for the realization of the project.
