Visitors from USA
Friday 5 September we had visitors from Norwegian American Genealogical Center & Naeseth Library, located in Madison, Wisconsin, USA. The aim of their travel to various places in Norway is to establish relations with relevant institutions and also search for additional source material.
According to an information brochure, the Norwegian American Genealogical Center & Naeseth Library "is an educational non-profit research center with national and international scope. The Center collects, preserves, shares and interpret resources for the study of Norwegian heritage. [...] Through its collections, research, outreach, and publications, the Center strives to maintain its role as the most comprehensive source for information about Norwegian immigrants, their ancestors, and their descendants."
The Mission Archives showed examples of archival documents and publications with evidence of close relations between Norway and USA. Some Norwegian missionaries emigrated to serve as pastors in Lutheran churches in North America after their years on the mission field in Africa and elsewhere. And, before overseas mission work was organized by Lutheran churches in USA towards the end of the 19th century, several Norwegian American congregations and individuals sent their contributions to the Norwegian Missionary Society in Stavanger.
