Local associations in Norway related to the NMS
In 1842 the Norwegian Missionary Society was founded in Stavanger by delegates from local associations ("foreninger"). Since then additional such groups have been established all over Norway, numbering more than 6000. These groups have consisted of a variety of members: women, men and women, men, youth and children. Through the years some groups have terminated. Currently inactive associations are marked with the symbol * in the column for start year.
The list below attempts to display the name and founding year. For location we refer to the municipality (township) as of 2009, in some cases also with approximate map coordinates.
More documentation, such as historical accounts and photographs, will be added.
