This is to invite you to the 23rd Conference of the Nigerian Association for Biblical Studies (NABIS) slated for Tuesday 13th to Friday 16th July, 2010 at Kogi State University, Ayingba, Kogi State, Nigeria.

 

The keynote address will be delivered by the association's chairman, Rt. Rev. Prof. J.O. Akao. Seven commissioned papers are to be presented at the conference by the following eminent scholars.

 

  • Prof. Knut Holter: Old Testament Studies and Social Transformation in Africa
  • Prof. D. T. Adamo: Evolving a Biblical Hermeneutics for Social change and Transformation in Africa.
  • Dr. R. Iwuchukwu: Prophecy As Vehicle for Socio-Religious Transformation in Ancient Israel
  • Prof. J. D. Gwamna: The Transforming influence of the Christian in the context of Jesus' metaphor of ‘Salt and Light' As Impetus for Socio-Religious Transformation.
  • Dr. G.N. Toryough: The Preaching of the Baptist as a Model for Religious Clerics in the Pursuit of Socio-Religious Transformation
  • Dr. M.I. Atere: The  Servant - Leadership concept of Jesus (Matt. 20: 20-28 & Lk. 22:24-27) as exemplar for transformed leadership in Nigeria
  • Dr. E.O. Adeogun: Deuteronomic Reforms in the Context of Clamour for Socio-Religious Transformation in Nigeria.

 

Biblical scholars who which to present papers at the conference are free to choose their own topics which relate to the theme of the conference. Note that papers not relevant to the theme of the conference will not be slated for presentation. The following are some suggested topics:

  • 14. Jesus' Cleansing of the Temple as a call to Social and Religions Activism in Nigeria.
  • 15. The Teaching of Jesus Christ on Materialism and their Prospect for Curbing Political and Socio-Economic violence in Nigeria
  • 16. The Humility and Self-efficiency Lifestyle of Jesus: A Challenge to Public Office Holders in Nigeria.
  • 17. Re-assessing the ‘Rule of Law' in Nigeria in the Light of Jesus' Exposition of Jewish Law in Matthew 5:12 - 47.
  • 18. The Jubilee Declaration (Lk. 4: 16-19) and Socio-economic Transformation in Nigeria.
  • 19. Paul's Teaching on the New creature as initiative for socio-religious transformation in Nigeria.
  • 20. John the Baptist's message of repentance in the context of Socio-religious transformation in Nigeria.

NOTES

  • 1. You will be allowed to present only one paper at the conference.
  • 2. You are to come with at least 100 copies of your paper as a requirement for presentation.
  • 3. An abstract of the paper (not more than a page) should reach the secretary latest by the last week of May 2010.
  • 4. Papers not related to the conference theme will not be slated for presentation
  • 5. A paper should not exceed 20 pages of A4 size including notes.
  • 6. Use endnotes for references and MLA style.
  • 7. Conference papers that meet the requirements of the Association may be published in the Association's Biblical Studies Series.
  • 8. Presenters of paper are to pay a non-refundable assessment fees of N1,000.00.
