Semester Opening Ceremony 15 August

The School of Mission and Theology marks the opening of a new academic year by a ceremony in the Aula on the 15th of August 11 AM. There will also be an opening service in Kampen church at 10 AM. All students are welcome!

The MHS Graduation Ceremony will be held on Friday 15th of June at MHS.

Semester Opening Ceremony January 12th

The School of Mission and Theology (MHS) marks the opening of a new semester with a ceremony in the Aula on the 12th of January at 12:00 AM. Speeches will be given by Rector Bård Mæland and also by leaders of the Student Board. Bishop Ingeborg Midttømme, from the Diocese of Møre, is visiting the School and will on the occasion greet both students and teachers. Students who fullfilled their degrees in the fall semester of 2011 will at the ceremony receive their diplomas.

Lectures and devotions will commmence already on Monday 9 January.

Dr Knut Alfsvåg appointed Professor of Systematic Theology

In the meeting of the Board of the MHS School of Mission and Theology Thursday April 14, Dr Knut Alfsvåg was appointed Professor of Systematic Theology.

New Rector

On Monday March 1, Professor Bård Mæland takes over as Rector of the MHS School of Mission and Theology after Professor Knut Holter. This will be given attention during the Monday Eucharist Service in the MHS Aula at 11.05, and with some program in the MHS Canteen afterwards.

Dr. Karl Ludvig Reichelt Memorial Lectures and Study Day, Dec. 3, 2008

This is to announce that the annual Dr. Karl Ludvig Reichelt Memorial Lectures and Study Day of the School of Mission and Theology will be held on Wednesday December 3, 2008.

The venue of the Study Day (0830-1100) is Room 224.

The venue of the Memorial Lectures (1200-1530) is the MHS Aula.

Dr Thor Strandenæs appointed Professor of Theology of Mission

In the meeting of the Board of the MHS School of Mission and Theology Wednesday September 17, Dr Thor Strandenæs was appointed Professor of Theology of Mission.

Cabinet minister visits MHS to celebrate accreditation

Tora Aasland, Cabinet Minister of Research and Higher Education, visited the MHS School of Mission and Theology Monday 18. August, as part of a program celebrating the accreditation of MHS as a specialized university.

Dr Kjell Nordstokke appointed Adjunct Professor

Dr Kjell Nordstokke - presently serving as Director, Department for Mission and Development, Lutheran World Federation, Geneva - has been appointed Adjunct Professor of Mission and Diaconia Studies, MHS School of Mission and Theology.

MHS accredited as a specialized university

The Government of Norway has today accredited the MHS School of Mission and Theology as a specialized university for theological, religious and cultural studies.

Øyvind M. Eide appointed Professor of Practical Theology

Dr Øyvind M. Eide was on September 7 appointed Professor of Practical Theology in the School of Mission and Theology. Dr Eide's research background includes studies of pastoral care in African contexts, and on the relationship between religion and politics in the years of revolution in Ethiopia. His work experience includes a time as pastor and seminary lecturer in Ethiopia as well as many years as Rector of the Department of Practical Theology in the School of Mission and Theology in Stavanger.

New Professor of Practical Theology

Dr Hans Austnaberg has been appointed Associate Professor of Practical Theology, School of Mission and Theology. He holds a Ph.D. in the Science of Mission from the School of Mission and Theology, and his major responsibility in the Department of Practical Theology will be homiletics and church education. Dr Austnaberg has previously served as a pastor in Madagascar and Norway, and he has taught at the Lutheran Graduate School of Theology (Madagascar) and at the University of Stavanger (Norway).

International conference in Kampala

The School of Mission and Theology is part of a scholarly network in Africa, Network of Theology and Religious Studies. During the last week of November representatives from the seven network institutions - in South Africa, Madagascar, Cameroon, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia and Norway - met to a conference at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda.

The studies at MHS have been very useful. In my present job at the Police office in Stavanger I daily meet people from different parts of the world. I took both a bachelor and a master degree at MHS. I feel that my background has helped me a lot in my job in the Police.
