About international exchange (outgoing)
Purpose
Why study abroad for a period? Because it will give you unique experiences of equivalent studies in a different linguistic and cultural context. This helps you to a broader and deeper understanding of your subject, and provides you with an international network.
Types of international exchange
Students at the MHS can choose from three different types of international exchange:
- A one month stay, as an organized part of the programme: The one year programme in intercultural communication and global cooperation, as well as the one year programme in social science studies (where the exchange is optional) offer a one month stay in Uganda or Thailand.
- One month stay, which is not a part of an organised programme: Students may choose to stay one month at a cooperating institution, and still keep a normal progression of studies and exams at the MHS.
- Longer stays: A decision is made in each individual case whether the exam is done at the MHS or at the host institution.
Economic matters
Presupposing that the exchange period lasts for at least four weeks, Lånekassen will cover the expense of the cheapest flight between Stavanger and the capital of the host country: 70% as grant and 30% as loan. In addition, one may apply Lånekassen for further economic support for the studies, such as e.g. tuition fees.
The MHS offers a certain amount of inspiration grants (NOK 3000) to students who choose options 2. or 3. The MHS is a partner of Erasmus and Nordplus, and offers grants both to students and employees; see information on our webpage concerning Europe.

MGS gave me new and more perspectives on what I have expirienced and learnt in my job. After several years of jobs with child welfare, asylum seekers and prevention of prostitution and human trafficking, it was like an oasis to come to MHS and study.
